Can a chiropractor help spinal stenosis?
It depends on how narrow the space is and what is causing it. Spinal stenosis means the open spaces in your spine have gotten smaller. That can press on the nerves. It is most common in the low back, and it gets more common as we get older.
Some people with stenosis try non-surgical care first, like spinal decompression, adjustments and exercises. Severe stenosis, or stenosis that keeps getting worse, needs a spine surgeon. At Neu Life Chiropractic in Tomball, Dr. Rob Neuenschwander checks your spine with an exam and X-rays first. Then he tells you if our care fits you or if you should see a specialist.
What is spinal stenosis?
Your spinal cord and nerves run through open spaces in your spine. Stenosis means those spaces have narrowed. A bulging disc, thick ligaments, bone spurs or worn joints can all take up room.
When the space gets tight, the nerves can get squeezed. That is what causes the pain, numbness or weakness. Stenosis in the neck can cause symptoms in the arms and hands.
What are the signs of spinal stenosis?
Many people feel pain, heaviness, cramping or tingling in the low back, buttocks or legs when they stand or walk. It often eases when they sit down or bend forward. Some people find it easier to walk while leaning on a shopping cart.
These signs can also come from other problems, like sciatica from a disc or poor blood flow in the legs. That is why we check first and treat second.
How does Neu Life treat spinal stenosis?
Your plan depends on what your exam and X-rays show. It may include:
Spinal decompression
A slow stretch on our Back on Trac table aims to take pressure off the discs and nerves. More on decompression.
Spinal adjustments
Gentle, precise adjustments help the joints in your low back and pelvis move better. More on adjustments.
Exercises
Exercises you do after your adjustment and at home help your back get stronger and move better.
Daily habits
Dr. Rob shows you how to sit, stand, walk and sleep so you put less load on the tight spots.
How do my first two visits work?
Visit 1: You fill out your paperwork. Dr. Rob talks with you one on one and does an exam. We take digital X-rays of your spine in our office.
Visit 2: Dr. Rob walks you through your X-rays and exam results. He tells you what he found and what he recommends. If you choose to start care, you get your first treatment and your plan.
We use two visits so we find the cause first, then treat it.
What does it cost to start?
As of October 2026, new patients can ask about our $65 new patient offer. Our team will tell you what it covers when you book. We are out of network, so you pay us at the visit. Our services are eligible for insurance reimbursement, so you can ask your plan about paying you back.

"This was my last resort before seeing a surgeon for decades of back issues."
"He also has a great setup of all equipment in-house (xray, spinal decompression) to provide the treatment options."
When should I go to the ER instead?
Go to the emergency room first if you suddenly lose control of your bladder or bowels. Go if you have numbness in your groin or inner thighs. Go if your leg gets weak fast. These signs need care right away.
